Thirty-six photo books, dating back to 2010, were recovered and reprinted after a family lost their home and treasured keepsakes in a total-loss fire.

PRINCETON, N.J. – Aug. 12, 2026 – PRLog — When Renee Priest and her family returned home from church one Sunday, they found their house had burned to the ground.

They were safe, but nearly everything inside was gone.

Among the possessions Renee feared she had lost forever were years of family photo books she had created through Picaboo. The books documented more than a decade of birthdays, holidays, milestones, children growing up, grandchildren arriving, friendships, vacations and the everyday moments that had become part of her family’s story.

Renee reached out to Picaboo with a simple question: Could the books be printed again?

The Picaboo team began reviewing her account and discovered a collection of projects extending all the way back to 2010. Ultimately, the team was able to recover and reprint 36 individual photo book projects, giving the Priest family back a collection of memories spanning approximately 16 years.

Renee’s reaction captured just how much those books meant to her family.

“WOW WOW WOW, wish I could just give y’all a huge hug!” she wrote. “These 36 books represent not only our lives but the lives of our friends, children and grandchildren. I always thought one day, when we’re old, we can relive our life through these books. You cannot imagine how thankful I am to have this opportunity.”

For Picaboo, the effort became about far more than replacing printed products.

“Documenting our lives and preserving the moments that matter is at the heart of what we do at Picaboo,” said Tori Wolsky, Vice President of Operations. “We create these books hoping they’ll be opened years from now around a table, passed between generations and used to tell stories that might otherwise be forgotten. When something unimaginable happens and we have the opportunity to help a family recover those memories, it makes the work incredibly meaningful. We weren’t just able to reprint 36 books for Renee. We were able to give her family back pieces of their story, and there is nothing more rewarding than that.”

That meaning became even clearer when the newly printed books arrived.

While celebrating her husband’s 70th birthday, Renee watched three generations of her family gather together around the books.

“It’s so true…a picture really is worth a thousand words,” Renee shared. “While celebrating my husband’s 70th birthday yesterday, three generations gathered together, sharing stories, laughing, crying, and enjoying the books. What a wonderful reminder of how photographs preserve not only our memories, but the stories that connect generations.”

For families, photo books can become more than collections of images. They preserve context, stories, relationships and moments that may otherwise fade with time. They can capture children growing up, loved ones who are no longer present, major milestones and ordinary days that become more meaningful with each passing year.

In Renee’s case, the physical books were lost, but the memories documented inside them were not.

Years of birthdays, holidays, family gatherings and everyday life could once again be held, shared and passed around the room.

And now, those 36 books carry another story of their own: the story of a family that lost nearly everything, but was able to recover a piece of its history.
