Picaboo.com has brought back Import Pages, the feature its customers asked for more than any other. The capability went live in the Picaboo editor on September 1 and has already been widely used, arriving just ahead of the holiday photo book season.

Import Pages lets a customer reach into any of their other projects and bring a finished page, spread, or cover into the book they are working on now. The work that went into designing that page — the photo placement, the captions, the layout — comes with it. Nothing has to be rebuilt from scratch.

“Our customers told us plainly that they wanted this back, and they were right to,” said Elias Jo, Founder and CEO. “People don’t make one book. They make a book for the grandparents, a book for the kids, a book for themselves, and a lot of the same pages belong in all three. Making someone rebuild the same spread three times isn’t a feature decision, it’s a tax on their time. Import Pages removes it.”

How It Works

Import Pages lives in the Picaboo editor, in the same left-hand menu where page layouts and templates are stored. Customers choose a source project, preview its pages, and bring in one page, one spread, or the cover at a time.

Pages can be imported from any other project of the same size and book type, so a design always lands in a book built to hold it.

The practical effect is speed. A customer who has already built a strong photo spread — a wedding sequence, a vacation, a year of a child’s school photos — can reuse it across every book that needs it, and spend the saved time on the pages that are actually different.

Import Pages existed in earlier versions of Picaboo and was among the most missed capabilities after it went away. When the company surveyed longtime customers about what to rebuild, this feature came back at the top of the list — described by customers who were making related books at the same time and did not want to duplicate an entire project just to reuse a handful of pages.

“We’d rather be told what to build than guess at it,” said Jo. “This one came straight from customers, and if there’s something else people want, we want to hear that too.”

The timing is deliberate. The weeks between Thanksgiving and the December shipping deadlines are the busiest of the year for photo book makers, and many customers are producing several books at once as gifts. Import Pages makes those books faster and easier to finish — and makes it realistic to give a personalized book to more than one person without starting over each time.
