Living away from home for the first time can be overwhelming for many college students. Help take away some of the stress by providing your college student with an Advice for Life Resource Book they can refer to anytime they need a helpful hint.

Include advice on a variety of subjects such as doing laundry, getting along with roommates, keeping your houseplant alive, waking up on time for class, proper punctuation, who to call in case of an emergency, places to get Take Out 24 hours a day, and finding meaningful activities to participate in.

Spend some time developing a list of the different subjects you would like to cover and think of the different ways you can illustrate and describe each one. Once you have spent some time brainstorming, take pictures that you can use to illustrate your book. For example, pictures of the different steps you go through when you do laundry.

Create a new book in Picaboo and select the Photo Journal Theme. This will pre-select page layouts that will allow you to add both photos and text to each page. Use these pre-selected page layouts or choose from over 90 others to create the perfect arrangement of your photos and text. Dedicate a page or two to each life lesson you have decided to include.

When you are finished, customize each page with custom backgrounds, fonts, and corners. Your college student will love reading through their custom Advice for Life book. Just don't forget to include a page encouraging them to call their parents often.

 

My Hometown Book   Remind your new college student about their favorite places to hang out at home with a My Hometown Book. Not only will they love sharing it with their new friends and dorm mates, it will also be an excellent resource when they are feeling homesick. In addition to pictures of their favorite hang out spots, also include brief messages of encouragement from friends, family, and mentors.

 

Biography Book   One of the most important things for your college student to remember as they head out into the world is where they came from. Remind them of their unique story with a Biography Book. Include pictures of your college student as an infant, child, and young adult. Record their many accomplishments and learning experiences. They will love looking back through the important moments in life when they are away from friends and family and will re-read this gift book again and again.
