This adorable guy walked into Lucy's, where I tended bar. He was so cute; it drove me crazy. Finally, I asked one of the waitresses to find out his name and how old he was. She reported back that his name was Ervie, and that he was twenty-six. Later, I found out that he had lied about his age; he was only twenty-one. At the time, I was thirty. But it didn't matter - I was in love.

We only had a month to date before he moved over four hundred miles away to start college. Every weekend I made the trip to visit him, but it wasn't easy. At the time, I was working two jobs to pay for the phone bill; we talked about ten times every day. Looking back, I realize that I might have been a little obsessed. But I was patient, too; it took two years before Ervie asked me to move to Las Cruces.

Even though he was busy with his studies, and I was busy working, we made time for each other. I especially enjoyed our Friday night dates; we would play cards and talk for hours.

One Friday night, after a really bad day at work, I came home, grabbed a beer, and started venting about my day. Then Ervie changed the subject. "I bought something for you," he said. "Do you want it now or tomorrow?" Of course, I didn't want to wait. "Okay," he said, "close your eyes."

When I opened them, he was on one knee, with ring in hand, asking me to marry him. My response was: "Yes!" Right away, I called my family and Ervie's mom and sisters to tell them the good news. Their response was: "Finally!"

We set a date of September 29, 2007. I made almost everything for the wedding myself, including the invitations, the decorations and the table settings. And I couldn't have had a better wedding day! The weather was perfect for pictures. Later in the evening, it rained, which is supposed to be good luck.

I am so happy to be married to Ervie!
