I always thought I would get proposed to on a hot air balloon, a helicopter ride, or even on a roller coaster. But the simplicity of the occasion was so unexpected that it took me totally off guard and best of all our families was there to witness the occasion.

It happened on October 15, 2006. Our 2 year anniversary was quickly approaching and Abel and I had started seriously talking about getting married sometime in the future. The reality was that money was tight and I knew that an engagement ring wasn't in his budget then. So I didn't give it much thought.

About that time my parents were flying in to visit me. Abel and I thought it would be great to get both of our families together for dinner (since they hadn't met before) and formally speak to our parents about our future wedding plans.

Finally my parents arrived and as we were in the living room chatting together, Abel got up and started telling my parents how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He then formally asked them for my hand in marriage and for their blessing. My parents told Abel that they were extremely proud parents, that I had been an excellent daughter, and that they know that he loved me very much. Then they gave us their blessing to get married. At that point I couldn't hold it in anymore. I started crying and gave them a hug. It meant so much to hear those words.

At the end of the night we were saying our goodbyes when Abel called me over to him. I thought he just wanted a goodbye kiss, but he quietly stared at me with a sort of smirk. Then he got down on one knee and took a ring out of his pocket and in front of everybody said, "Will you marry me?" I gasped and then yelled, "OF COURSE!!!" We hugged and I started crying again, then, as the excitement quickly settled in, I started screaming with joy. I ran over to my parents and showed them the ring. My mom didn't get a bended knee proposal or a ring when she got engaged so it was a first for my parents as well.

It was such a perfect evening and I wouldn't change a thing. No roller coaster or hot air balloon can top that!
