Great Granddad's Dimples
Shared by Patricia Kaminski |
View book. My husband and I wanted to give his grandparents a very special gift for Christmas. After a long brainstorming session, we
decided to make a photo book. With the help of his sneaky mom, we managed to get our hands on a box of old photos.
As my husband sifted through the pictures of his grandparent's lives, so many happy memories came flooding back to him. But the best was yet to come! Aged, yellowed, and forgotten, at the bottom of the pile, we discovered a small tattered book with the words "Our Wedding" written on the cover. When we opened the fragile book, we discovered pictures that we had never seen before, the photos of his grandparent's wedding back in April of 1950. The young couple looked so happy together. Especially touching was the photo in the back of the book, the one of the newlyweds sharing a tender kiss. I was so excited about our discovery! These pictures showed my husband's grandparent's love for each other, so brand new. And when we saw our son's dimples in the pictures of his great grandfather, we realized that this book was a valuable family treasure that needed to be preserved for our son and generations to come. Right away, I went to work. I spent an afternoon scanning all the pictures into our computer, restoring them as best as I could. I did some cropping and then headed straight for the Picaboo site. I selected a variety of backgrounds to enhance the black and white photos and arranged them in chronological order. After a few phone calls, I was able to clarify some important details and managed to recreate the wedding album in no time! That Christmas, when my husband's grandparents opened the photo book, it brought tears to their eyes and ours. Memories were flooding back to them, and even my husband's stern grandfather had a smile on his face as he looked through the book and named everyone in the pictures from so long ago. He was also very proud to see that his great grandson, indeed, had the dimples he once had. |
