Encourage your kids to help out in the kitchen with a "Kid's Christmas Cookbook".

Children love the holiday bustle that fills their family kitchen each year. Help your child learn to participate in the activity by creating a "Kid's Christmas Cookbook" that shows them how to prepare a number of holiday favorites.

Getting Started

  1. First, make a list of several holiday recipes you would like to teach your child this year such as ginger bread houses, Christmas cookies, and hot apple cider.
  2. Next, think about the different types of pictures you could take to illustrate each step in the process. For example, you may want to take pictures of measuring spoons, the location of the mixing bowl, and each ingredient that will be used.
  3. Take pictures of the steps you have identified for each recipe. If possible, include your child in this picture taking process so that later they will be able to see themselves go through the steps to make each recipe.
  4. Also, write out the text for each recipe in kid friendly terms using a Word document. This will allow you to spell-check your text before you add it to your Picaboo book.

Creating Your "Kid's Christmas Cookbook"

  1. Create a new book in Picaboo and select the Catalog theme which will pre-select page layouts that allow you to add pictures and text for several steps on a single page.
  2. Copy and paste the text from your Word document into your book. You may want to include a few pages at the beginning of your book that describe the different tools and techniques that your child will need to complete the recipes.
  3. Use the pictures you have gathered to illustrate each page and finish the effect with custom holiday backgrounds.

When you are finished, your child will love looking through his or her very own cookbook and will be excited to help out around the kitchen. Just make sure to include a section about the importance of cleaning up.
